ARDA Campaign to Free Burmese MPs


 

Members of Parliament Union - Burma (MPU)

MPU is the organisation of Burmese MPs in exile and established on 4 October 2000 Dublin, Ireland. It was initially formed on 15 June 1996 with representatives elected in the 27 May 1990 elections. The parliamentary representatives had left Burma with a mandate to form a provisional government in exile and to continue the struggle for the restoration of democracy and human rights in Burma.

MPU is responsible for electing the prime minister of the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma (NCGUB).

Its main focus is to raise international awareness on Burma and to garner the support of parliaments, parliamentary institutions, political parties and political institutions for the Committee Representing People's Parliament (CRPP) which performs the duties of a parliament, and the democracy movement of Burma in general.
